Ecological Forest Management in a Changing Climate: A Workshop Series for Forest Stewards
The recent impacts of Hurricane Fiona, fires, flooding and forest pests on the forests of Nova Scotia present many challenges for woodland stewards. As our climate continues to change, these and other future impacts will play a significant role in the future of our forests and need to be incorporated into our management planning accordingly.
Diversity and resiliency are foundational concepts in ecological forest management, as we face the likelihood of increased wind events, insect outbreaks (such as Hemlock Woolly Adelgid and Emerald Ash Borer), and changes in the ranges of many plant and animal species.
NSWOOA's 2023-2024 workshop series will focus on promoting climate resiliency, carbon storage, soil health, and biodiversity in the Wabanaki-Acadian Forest by providing resources and opportunities for hands-on learning and networking with like-minded forest stewards like yourself.
We will be hosting a series of introductory workshops across the province this fall and winter. More information about each event and registration links will be posted below as details are confirmed. Check back often!
Financial support for this workshops series is provided by the NS Department of Natural Resources and Renewables.
Pre-registration is required for all events.
If you have any questions about the events, please email Christie at [email protected].
